“THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE RENASSAINCE”
SESSION DATES: Monday, January 13 - Monday, March 3, 2025
TIME: 3 - 6 PM
Join us as we enter the European Renaissance period! We’ll explore this 15th century cultural movement focusing on the art of well-known Italian renaissance artists, sport, music, architecture and astronomy. The term will end with a grand feast fit for a king featuring exquisite art inspired by the great artists.

The Renaissance "Rebirth" Period
Renaissance is a French word meaning “rebirth.” It refers to a period in European civilization that was marked by a revival of Classical learning and wisdom. Children will learn about the European cultural movement covering the 15th and 16th centuries, that marked the transition from the Middle Ages to modernity.

Medival Astronomy
During the renaissance period, astronomy began to undergo a revolution in thought known as the Copernican Revolution, which gets the name from the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. He proposed a heliocentric system, in which the planets revolved around the Sun and not the Earth. Children will be introduced to space, the discover of planets, the contributions of Galileo Galilei, Johannes Kepler, and Isaac Newton, and the constellations.

Fencing, Archery & Juggling
During the Renaissance, sports became a subject of intellectual analysis and were incorporated into the educational curriculum. Books were written about the medical benefits of sports and how to play them. Sports became a symbol of the mind's control over the body, and some sports were more about decorum than exercise.

Italian Renaissance Art
The Italian Renaissance was the 'rebirth' of Classical values in art that influenced artistic thought for the next five hundred years. The Key Elements that formed the art of the Italian Renaissance were Naturalism, Classical Humanism, perspective drawing and the development of oil painting.

Summer 2024
SUPERHERO TRAINING ACADEMY
Your child will choose from a plethora of materials to create their very own superhero identity. There they will learn all about the amazing qualities and characteristics that make a hero. They will participate in mock superhero missions and study real-life superhero fight moves.

Fall 2024
THE SEVEN SEAS
Children will learn to about the history of jig, and will be able to perform the Sailor’s Hornpipe. They will be immersed in the rich port history of Astoria, Oregon and will be able to name famous pirate and wrecks of the Pacific Ocean. They will create their message in a bottle and will be able to perform a sea shanty. Finally, they will be able to identify the sea life, weather, and tides that are native to the Oregon coast.

THE GOLDEN AGE IN WINTER
Join us as we enter the Renaissance period! We’ll explore this 15th century cultural movement focusing on rich art, sport, music, architecture and science. The term will end with a grand feast fit for a king featuring exquisite art inspired by well-known Renaissance artists.

Spring 2025
THE GREAT WESTERN FRONTIER
Step back in time and journey across the plains as we cover the Great Western Frontier! Children will explore a primitive past, prepare for this summer’s crops, sample an array of cottage crafts, and enjoy a hot meal from an authentic chuckwagon!
